Editor’s Note: “Black and Khaki” is a column written by Enlighten Chairman Jeremy Jacobs. It’s name is derived from what has been dubbed as Jeremy’s “uniform” — a khaki hat, black shirt, khaki pants. Jeremy wears this combination daily and we felt it was only right to name his column after his signature style.
Talk to anybody who has worked in cannabis before and they’ll all say the same thing — this industry is chock-full of some of the most interesting characters and colorful characters you’ll ever encounter. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some of the most enigmatic and strange players in the weed business, but every now and then I’m introduced to somebody with a truly fascinating story that is unequivocally in need of being shared on a larger stage. One of these stories belongs to Scot Knutson.
Scot is a retired decorated Marine who is the Vice President of New Business Development at Keef Brands, a multi-state operating cannabis company and family business. Scot served as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal technician in Iraq and Afghanistan before being honorably discharged; he has gone through a great deal of mental and physical trauma and credits cannabis as a crucial component to his healing process. And even with his struggles, Scot still manages to lead a thriving, growing and award-winning cannabis brand, which he runs with his brother Erik.
I was lucky enough to sit down with Scot and discuss his story via web chat. Fortunately, I recorded the entire conversation and Enlighten’s crack video team edited it all together for your viewing pleasure. You can watch the entire 30 minute interview by clicking the play button below.
